How to Apply Your DTF Transfers

DTF (Direct to Film) transfers are a simple, durable way to add vibrant, full-color designs to your garments. Whether you’re using a heat press or an iron, following the right steps will ensure your design looks great and lasts through many washes.

Before You Start

• Choose a clean, wrinkle-free garment. Pre-wash if needed to remove sizing or residue.
• Have your tools ready: a heat press (recommended) or household iron, parchment paper.
• Check your material type. Heat-sensitive fabrics may require lower temperatures.

Heat Press Application (Recommended)

1. Set your heat press to 300°F (150°C) with medium pressure.
2. Lay the garment flat and pre-press for 3–5 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
3. Position your DTF transfer film on the garment. Use heat-resistant tape if needed.
4. Press for 10–12 seconds with medium pressure.
5. Wait a few seconds. While the garment is still warm, peel the film in a smooth, sideways motion. If areas lift, cover with parchment paper and repress for 3–5 seconds.
6. For best results, cover the design with parchment paper and do a final press for 10–15 seconds to soften, secure, and reduce shine.

Iron Application (For Small Designs)

1. Set your iron to the cotton/wool setting (approx. 300–350°F / 150–175°C).
2. Place the garment on a hard, heat-safe surface (avoid ironing boards with padding).
3. Pre-iron the area for a few seconds to remove wrinkles and moisture.
4. Place your DTF transfer on the garment. Cover with parchment paper or a thin cloth.
5. Press firmly without sliding, holding for 15–20 seconds in each section until the entire design is heated evenly.
6. Wait a few seconds, then peel the film sideways while the fabric is still warm. If areas lift, re-cover and press again with firm pressure.

Care Instructions

• Wash inside out in cold or warm water. Avoid bleach and fabric softeners.
• Tumble dry low or hang to dry for best longevity.
• Do not iron directly over the design. Use parchment paper or a pressing cloth if ironing is needed.

Pro Tips

• Peel warm for most fabrics, but test cool peeling if adhesion issues occur.
• Repeated pressing won’t harm the transfer—extra heat can help secure stubborn edges.
